Store Music & Public Address System

Store Music & Public Address System

At Belleville Market, the in-store music and PA system help set the tone for the customer experience. This system does more than just provide background music—it also allows us to make timely announcements, enhance atmosphere, and communicate across different areas of the store. Here’s everything you need to know about how it works, and what to do if something isn’t working properly.

Store Music

Music is a core part of the Belleville Market atmosphere—it's the invisible thread that ties together the customer experience. Here’s how to ensure it’s up and running properly each day:

Daily Setup

  1. Before the doors open, a team member is responsible for starting the music using the store iPad.
  2. Open the Spotify app and confirm you're logged into the official Belleville Market account.
  3. Use the currently assigned playlist:
    1. 🎧 Current Playlist: [Belleville Market - Summer 2025] (updated 6/15/25)
      1. (Note: This section will be updated as playlists rotate. Always use the most current one listed.)
  4. Hit shuffle play and make sure the volume is turned up to an appropriate level.

Throughout the Day

  1. Periodically check that the music is still playing and that the Bluetooth connection hasn’t dropped.
  2. If switching zones or adjusting volume for special events (like a PARC pop-up or tasting), make sure music remains on in core shopping areas.
  3. Avoid skipping songs too frequently—playlists are curated to match the tone and flow of the store experience.

End of Day

Do not turn the music off until after the scheduled closing time. Music should continue playing store-wide through closing to maintain the store's ambiance for late shoppers and staff.

Do Not

  1. Play personal playlists or connect personal devices.
  2. Change the playlist without manager approval.
  3. Use Spotify’s “radio” or “auto-play” features, as they may pull in off-brand content.
All playlists are curated to align with the Belleville Market brand—welcoming, upbeat, and diverse without being disruptive. If you have song suggestions, feel free to pass them along!

Store Announcements

In addition to music, our PA system supports both pre-recorded and live announcements. These help communicate important messages across the store while maintaining a polished, on-brand experience for guests.

Pre-Recorded Announcements (via iPad)

Pre-recorded messages are the most common type of announcement used in the store. These are professionally voiced and preloaded onto the iPad, ready to be played at specific times throughout the day.

Common Uses:

  1. Store closing reminders
  2. Store closed message
  3. Promotional highlights or event day messaging

Current Standard Messages:

  1. ✅ “15 minutes until closing” announcement
  2. ✅ “Store is now closed” message
  3. ✅ Welcome and promo highlight (optional on busy days or event weekends)

How to Play a Pre-Recorded Announcement:

  1. Wait for the current song to finish playing, if possible.
    1. If urgent (e.g., emergency or time-sensitive guest request), you may proceed without waiting.
  2. Pause the music using the Spotify app on the iPad.
  3. Open the Voice Memos app or designated folder.
  4. Select the correct recording from the list.
  5. Confirm the iPad is connected to the store’s Bluetooth receiver and that volume is up.
  6. Press play and listen to ensure the announcement plays through the store speakers.
  7. Once the message ends, resume music playback.
📌 Remember: The “15 minutes until closing” message should be played at exactly 15 minutes before closing. Do not skip it, even if the store is quiet.

Live Announcements

Live announcements may be made by a team lead or manager directly from the store iPad using the microphone input feature.

Common Uses:

  1. Calling for Guest Services or assistance
  2. Reminding guests of a tasting, workshop, or demo
  3. Sharing flash sale or giveaway updates during events

Before Making a Live Announcement:

  1. If possible, wait for the current song to finish.
  2. Pause the music on the iPad.
  3. Open the microphone input tool (check Voice Memos or PA app).
  4. Speak clearly and confidently into the mic.
  5. When finished, resume music playback.

Live Announcement Tips:

  1. Keep it short, friendly, and on-brand.
  2. Speak slowly and clearly—some areas of the store may have ambient noise.
  3. If you're unsure how to use the mic, ask a manager or reference the in-store tech guide.

🛠️ Troubleshooting: What To Do If the Music Isn't Playing

If you notice the music has stopped or didn’t start as expected, follow these quick troubleshooting steps:

1. Check the iPad

  1. Confirm that the correct music app (Spotify) is open and playing.
  2. Make sure the volume is up and not muted.
  3. Swipe down from the top right of the screen to open the Control Center and confirm that Bluetooth is ON.

2. Check the Receiver

Most Common Issue:

  1. Make sure the receiver is powered on and set to the correct input source (usually labeled Bluetooth).

3. Check Bluetooth Connection

  1. In the iPad's Settings > Bluetooth, look for the name of the correct receiver.
  2. If it’s not connected, tap to reconnect.
  3. If it says "Not Connected" and tapping doesn’t work, try toggling Bluetooth OFF and then ON again.

4. Still Not Working?

  1. Try restarting the iPad.
  2. If all else fails, alert a manager or designated tech contact for further assistance.
