Restroom Policy

Restroom Policy

Belleville Market does not offer a public restroom.

Restroom Use – Customers

Our restroom is located in a non-public, staff-only area that is not easily accessible and not ADA compliant. For these reasons, customers are not permitted to use the restroom under normal circumstances.

If a Customer Inquires

Please respond sincerely and professionally:

“I’m so sorry, unfortunately we don’t have a public restroom. The closest option is the Easton Public Market, just around the corner on Northampton Street.”

If the Customer Asks Why

Use any of the following talking points, depending on the situation:

“The restroom is located in a private area of the building that isn’t easily or safely accessible to the public.”

“We’re in an older building, and unfortunately, the restroom is not ADA compliant or up to public-access standards.”

“As a small business, we’re doing our best to balance customer comfort with safety and compliance, but we’re just not able to offer a public restroom at this time.”

“We truly wish we could offer more, but our setup just doesn’t allow us to meet public restroom requirements.”

Always aim to redirect helpfully:

“The Easton Public Market is just a short walk away and has clean, public restrooms available to all visitors.”

Exceptions

  1. Restroom use may be permitted in the following limited cases:
    1. Special events or workshops, when customers are on-site for an extended period.
    2. Extreme emergencies, at the discretion of the Guest Services team or Manager on Duty.
  2. If allowing a customer to use the restroom:
    1. Escort the customer to the restroom area.
    2. Use door code: 1560 + Enter to access the back hallway.
    3. Ensure the basement gate is closed for safety and privacy.
    4. Wait nearby (in Taste) while the restroom is in use.
    5. Check the restroom immediately afterward to ensure it remains clean and presentable.
Guest Services is ultimately responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and condition of the restroom at all times.

Restroom Use – Merchants and Vendors

Approved in-store merchants and pop-up vendors working on-site may use the restroom as needed.
